The Sir Peter Rigby Charitable Trust, founded by leading businessman Sir Peter Rigby, supports charitable initiatives that promote innovation, encourage enterprise and tackle social inequality. We believe success should open doors for others, which is why we invest in initiatives that provide access to education, real pathways to employment and long-term community support.
The Sir Peter Rigby Charitable Trust reflects a lifelong commitment to helping others. One of the UK’s most respected and successful business leaders, Sir Peter launched the founding company for Rigby Group with a £2,000 loan in 1975, growing it into one of the country’s largest privately owned business groups, with a turnover of £4bn. But success for Sir Peter has never been just about business. It’s about giving back. Through the Rigby Foundation, founded in 1992, and now The Sir Peter Rigby Charitable Trust, Sir Peter and his family have proudly supported many hundreds of local and national charities to provide invaluable support to people in need, from hospitals and hospices to arts and education organisations.
Funded organisations have included the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Millennium Point, Royal Shakespeare Company, Warwickshire’s Shakespeare Hospice, the Commonwealth Games legacy charity, The King’s Trust (previously The Prince’s Trust), Birmingham Children’s Hospital and The Rigby Cancer Unit at Stratford Hospital, providing state-of-the-art facilities for the town.

Funded projects include The Sir Peter Rigby Digital Futures Institute at Aston University, The Sir Peter Rigby Centre for Enterprise at University of Liverpool and The Sir Peter Rigby Coronation Food Hub in Birmingham.

Sir Peter Rigby is a Trustee of The Rigby Foundation. The Foundation, Chaired by Steve Rigby, funds programmes that help young people living in low income communities to succeed in education and to have the best possible chance of securing meaningful and sustainable employment. The Rigby Foundation's philanthropic activities will be focussed on the West Midlands, particularly in central and south Birmingham.

The Sir Peter Rigby Coronation Food Hub will not only enable a step change in food redistribution but will also serve as a centre of excellence for employability training in logistics and catering - creating a legacy of opportunity and community support.

The Sir Peter Rigby Digital Futures Institute is a multi-disciplinary research institute established in 2024 to provide thought leadership on one of the defining trends for the 2020s - the evolution of developed economies towards what is commonly referred to as ‘Industry 4.0’ and beyond.
The Sir Peter Rigby Centre for Enterprise
The Sir Peter Rigby Centre for Enterprise at University of Liverpool offers staff, students, alumni, and residents of Liverpool access to first-class business support, advice and mentorship. The goal is to help young people develop the skills they need to start a business or build their career.
